It depends on the exact pills you are taking. Ambien, for example, should be out of your system within a couple of days. ! Any comments?

This does not actually sound characteristic of an allergic reaction to zithromax, however it does definitely sound like it is due to you taking it. Are you taking a new antibiotic now in place of the zithromax?? If it was confirmed that you had a bacterial infection, you should have been given a new antibiotic so that you can get rid of that infection. To answer your question, azithromycin stays in your body a longer time than most antibiotics. It goes into all parts of your body, much moreso than other antibiotics. Because of this, it takes a long time for your body to eliminate the drug. This is why zithromax can be taken for 5 days (Z pak) while most other antibiotics are taken for 7-14 days. It lasts in the body longer.Since you have only taken 2 days worth of medication, I would say the medication should be eliminated within several days, possibly 4-5 days, although you may have symptoms of this side effect for longer than that. Just because the drug is gone from your body doesnt mean the swelling will go away as soon as the drug is gone. It may take some time. If you dont see it go away within 7-10 days, I would go back to the doctor to get it checked out, since it may be something else that caused it.Also, if the swelling gets any worse, or you develop any other symptoms such as hives or difficulty breathing, go to the emergency department of your nearest hospital. But, as long as the symptoms dont change, it should start to get better in a few days.White bumps to me sound like canker sores. I am not sure why zithromax would cause that, or if it could cause it. You may actually have a viral infection that is causing your tonsillitis. Swollen glands also are caused by viral infections. A virus can cause canker sores in your mouth, because it is running down your immune system.Have you been tested for mono?? Swollen tonsils and glands are hallmark signs of mono, and mono can also cause canker sores in your mouth. Just a thought; I could be way off but you didnt describe exactly what the doctor diagnosed you with so Im just wondering if this may be a possibility.Hope you feel better soon; best of luck. :)
