How far along are you?? Migraine medication is something doctors are cautious about with pregnant women, because some of the older medications cause blood vessels to contract and hypothetically could cause a similar tightening down of the vessels in the fetus. If the fetal blood vessels are tightened early in the pregnancy, it can disrupt development of the bowel or cause rupture of arteries going to the spine, leaving the baby paralyzed. No one knows if these drugs actually do affect the fetus, but its been a hypothetical concern, and there have been a few reports of problems.Narcotics, such as codeine (paired with Tylenol), are generally safe. But most of the other medications used are problematic. Occasional prescribed use of narcotics is generally safe. However, if used regularly (on a daily basis), there is a risk of miscarriage, premature delivery and complications during delivery. The baby may have difficulty breathing, be overly drowsy and/or experience withdrawal symptoms when it is born. The risk increases with higher amounts of the drug. So pretty much if you use it in the 2nd and 3rd trimester you are pretty safe. Just dont use it every day and dont take a higher dose than what your dr prescribed and you will be fine.
