    Improve. venerial diesese. VD means Venereal Disease. The standard term anymore has pretty much been changed to STD or Sexually Transmitted Disease .

    syphilis. it is a spirochete, and causes organ and tissue damage on a systemic level- including brain damage in stage 3 syphilis. Hitler even had syphilis- stage 3- and it is hypothesized that part of his madness can be attributed to this disease. until the advent of antibiotics, syphilis was known as the great pokes- in reference to the rash that syphilis sufferers get in the second stage. now, with antibiotics available that are effective against syphilis, death rates have greatly diminished- but recognizing the disease and preventing spread is still a problem.
