The gas in soda causes you to hiccup. A hiccup is an esophageal contraction of the diaphragm. Any comments?
Dec 22, 2010 This can be achieved by drinking soda or just making yourself burp. The person with the hiccups plug their ears and nose at the same time, The only option that works for me is to take a small spoonful of hard ice scream, and swallow it down really fast. I"m not sure why but it works every single time!
This happens to my husband EVERY time he takes his first sip of a carbonated beverage. Hes pretty much just accepted it and keeps drinking since its only for the first sip. Im sure it has something to do with the muscles of your esophagus, which may have changed as you grew older. I wouldnt worry about it and just ask your doctor the next time youre in for a check-up. If it is very painful, definitely avoid the carbonated beverages, which arent good for us anyway. Good luck!P.S. Whenever I eat fried rice too fast, my esophagus seizes up and I nearly have to throw up. I have to stop eating and relax. This is quite a bit different than your problem but it just shows how sensitive the muscles there can be. §♥♥♥§
