Agoraphobia isnt the fear of the dark, or what you cant see, but the fear of unfamiliarity or helplessness. (Complex) Posttraumatic stress disorder and acute stress reaction would also explain your ADHD-like symptoms and probably any others you may have. The dreams may not be repetitive, but if the contents are related, PTSD may be possible. If you witnessed a disturbing event when you were 7 or 8, it may have induced PTSD, but youve slowly forgotten (or youre denying it, consciously or not) about the event so your dreams subjects are a little broader. Maybe your phobia is actually the event of what could be your posttraumatic stress disorder. Im also willing to assume that the younger you were when you were traumatized, the harder it would have been to recall the exact event, so your dreams dont seem repetitive, but in the end, I think its the fear thats more important than the contents of the dream. You were put in a place that made you feel helpless or scared, and it traumatized you. Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder, often precipitated by the fear of having a panic attack in a setting from which there is no easy means of escape. As a result, sufferers of agoraphobia may avoid public and/or unfamiliar places. In severe cases, the sufferer may become confined to his or her home, experiencing difficulty traveling from this safe place.Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) is a psychological injury that results from protracted exposure to prolonged social and/or interpersonal trauma with lack or loss of control, disempowerment, and in the context of either captivity or entrapment, i.e. the lack of a viable escape route for the victim. I think Complex post-traumatic stress disorder best describes your caseImage rehearsal therapy seems to be the most effective treatment at the moment for both nightmares, posttraumatic stress disorder and the less severe acute stress reaction/disorder (which can develop into PTSD). I assume it should work with complex posttraumatic stress disorder as well, although there are some other suggested treatments for it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Complex_post-traumatic_stress_disorder#Treatment_for_adults). I think your best bet would be to try any non-drug therapy.

I’m on quite a few meds for various illnesses & mhissues I have. I’ve just been prescribed imapram for (hair pulling) issues I started as a child, but did not know it was a nerve disorder until my 20′s. It’s always been subjected to my eyelashes & eyebrows only(areas I could cover w/make-up). Lately I’ve moved to my temples & decided to seek treatment. Since I’m only less than a week into this new Rx, I’m wondering if there’s anyone else out there w/similar issues, or experience w/the imapram or hair pulling? If so ANY info would be deeply appreciated & a great help, thanks.
