No. Methadone is in the same family of drugs, however. It is a pain killer and is often used in treating heroin addiction. Any comments?
Although chemically unlike morphine or heroin, methadone acts on the same opioid receptors as these drugs, and thus has many of the same effects.
Hi, Methadone is different from heroin in a few way:1) Methadone is used as a relacement for opiate addicts (heroin, codeine, morphine etc…) Therefor it a simular drug. It is full opiate agonist wich fully stimulates the opiate recemptors in the brain, it effects the brain in exaclty the same way as heroin does. Methadone is a time release drug, if you take heroin in 30second you will get the full on rush, but when you take methadone it will hit you within 30mins but you can still feel the effects 6 hrs later, the effects of methadone in comparison to heroin (depending on the dose) is just less noticable. 2) Methadone is actulally more addictive than heroin and is more difficult to get off than heroin is. I have been on a methadone program and it was hell. It was the hardst thing i have ever been through, i fel like my body was being poisened. It didnt make me feel high but i could feel it and sometimes it would give me a bit of a rush, it also took the edge of throughout the day and made me feel a bit tiered. 3) Methadone is used in the same instances as diamorphine eg heroin is. You can get diamorphine perscribed on the NHS in pill format for pain. You can also get methadone perscribed for pain. They are essentially the same thing really, but where diamorphine will hit you straight away methadone will last all day and dosnt give you that burst.4) Methadone was develped by the nazis in WW2 to treat war patients with as there was a shirtage of morphine. It was very popular. Morphine was the drug that people origionally got addicted to, then diamorphine (heroin) was invented to cure morphine addiction! Then methadone was used to cure diamorphine addiction…then subutex is used to cure methadone addiction…as far as i know the only drug worth using for addiction is subutex becuase it is a partial agonist and dosent make you high, it just stops withdrwales. Basically all these drugs are the essentially the same, they all work on the same receptors and they all give the same effects, just at different levels and time frames.Hope this info helped.
