Youve done a great job and made a good start. You have built suspense nicely. Great work! I made a few suggestions in your text below to tighten it up, you tend to get a bit wordy and lose impact. Compare our sentences and you will see what I mean. I hope my ideas are helpful. Each person that comes into our lives makes our story worth telling. Some come for only a chapter and others stay the entire book. I knew that the chapter with Holt was ending; I was writing the last sentence. Pulling into the driveway as I had done a hundred times before, I realized that I now regarded the house we were sharing differently–it was somewhere I did not want to be. Glancing into the rearview mirror, I saw my tear-ringed eyes and the unhappiness they held. I knew that this was the moment when I had to tell him I no longer loved him. I tried to gather up my courage before opening the car door. My heart was pounding out of my chest. Walking inside, Holt wasnt there to welcome me as he usually did. I peered into the living room to see if he had fallen asleep on the couch, but he wasn‘t there. Wandering through the house trying to find him, I opened the garage door; his car was there—but he wasnt.A dozen possible scenarios rushed through my mind on queue. I shrugged and fished into my bag for the my cell, but there was no sign of his call. I called his phone and heard a faint yet familiar sound from inside the bedroom, Following it, I saw his cell phone placed neatly on the night stand. Holt never went anywhere without it, that was his life line. A shiver of apprehension ran through me. Seconds turned into minutes, minutes into hours and still no sign of him. This wasn’t like Holt; when he went somewhere he usually told me, left me a note, or called me. My breath became shallow and faint, my heart began to beat rapidly. I knew that something wasn’t right. At one point in my life, Holt had been my everything. I loved him wholeheartedly. Wed met in college—I was an undergrad at the University of Georgia majoring in History; he was attending Law School. We were polar opposites–I was unorganized, chaotic, never able to find anything I was looking for. Holt was known for his obsessive compulsiveness when it came to organization; even his closet was organized by color and type of shirt or pant. That’s what made us a perfect match; we complemented each other. One night while walking to my apartment, we had been talking about our ideal person—and he said to me, “Love isn’t about finding the perfect person but finding the person who accepts you for who you are.” I knew at that moment he had completely stolen my heart and nothing would ever be the same.Five years later, I found myself disenchanted with the life I wanted at nineteen. Everything seemed to come so fast there hadnt been an opportunity for me to become the woman I wanted to be. Thered never been time for me to find out exactly who Alessandra was. I loved him, but no longer as a lover, more as just a friend. Holt, whod been the perfect boyfriend, the perfect fiancé, was no longer perfect for me.
